Swordtails are a great addition to any tank! These guys are colourful and quite playful little fish that can be tankmates with anything that won't eat them! They only get up to about 14cm but this length is due to their iconic "sword" like tail that glides through the water as they move. These guys are livebearers meaning they don't lay eggs! livebearers are notorious) for pumping out lots of babies in short periods of time, 10-50 babies every 28 days! If you wish to prevent this please ensure you select only one particular sex of fish to avoid this! They live for 3-5 years and make great tankmates for other livebearing fish in particular.
Tank Requirements:
- 40L to accommodate 2 fish, and add an extra 7.5L for each other fish
- They prefer longer tanks compared to taller ones
- They like a temperature of 20°C - 27°C
- pH of 7ppm - 8ppm
- Some great tank mates include, Angelfish, Corydoras Catfish, Colombian Tetras And Platies
- Always ensure that you do your research before purchasing any aquatic fish so you can ensure you tick all necessary boxes
